Laparoscopic Appendectomy

The exact function of the appendix is essentially unknown.The appendix produces a bacteria-destroying protein called Immunoglobulins which help fight infection in the body. This function, however, is not major. People who have had appendectomies do not have an increased risk towards infection. Other organs in the body like the Liver and the Spleen produce a lot more Immunoglobulins to serve this function.
